Cuenta en su historia con más de 10 continuaciones de la saga y sin duda era/es una de las recreativas más divertidas de jugar.<br />Esta historia militar nos situa al inicio del siglo 21 donde encontramos dos facciones enfrentadas: La rebelión y la armada Regular.<br /><br />En el año 2026, el ejército de La Rebelión lanzó un ataque que empujó a las fuerzas de "La Armada Regular" al borde de la destrucción. La culpa estuvo mayoritariamente en las manos de los oficiales comandantes de "La Armada Regular", quienes fallaron en valorar la información que el departamento de inteligencia había facilitado.<br /><br />Con un número superior de tropas y armas, "la Rebelión" superaró a "La Armada Regular" en todos los aspectos. Al darse cuenta de su desventaja para poder lanzar ataques directos contra "La Rebelión", "La armada Regular" decidió lanzar numerosas operaciones especiales y crear ciertos vehículos con nombre en código "Metal Slug" para acompañar a sus comandos.<br /><br />"La Armada Regular" ha mantenido los tanques "Metal Slug" resguardados en sus bases secretas con esperanzas de lanzar un ataque masivo contra "La Rebelión" pero esta encontró y capturó la mayoría de las bases secretas que los contenía. Sin esos tanques "La Armada Regular" no podía siquiera contar con algo de esperanza para ganar.<br /><br />Con el gobierno y la milicia en la cuerda floja, el Leuteniente Rossi reorganiza a la mayoría de las tropas de "La Armada Regular" perdidas en quienes podía confiar para lanzar un contraataque desesperado. El objetivo de su misión: Recapturar los vehículos robados y usarlos contra la oposición.
